Challenges

  • poverty is still virulent
  • child mortality and maternal health still precarious,
  • the rates of achievement are slow in a country with incredible resource base and capability.
The constraining factors are obvious
  • poor governance and implementation of programmes, corruption, inadequate and misapplication of resources leading to lack of value for money, poor infrastructure to sustain production and facilitate domestic trade, sub-optimal coordination of activities among the three tiers of government and the unending security problems in the treasure store of Nigeria, the Niger Delta
Current Efforts
  • coordinated efforts, resources and focused implementation is on to ignite the desired and irreversible progress towards the attainment of the MDG targets.
  • more efforts need to be made in capturing relevant data on all activities relating to the implementation of the MDGs from the three tiers of government on a regular basis, so that the assessment of progress on the MDGs can be more realistic, robust and holistic.
  • Government is providing opportunities for greater involvement by the private sector, civil society organizations and development partners in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of MDG-related projects.
  • political will and sincerity of intentions.
