The African Center for Statistics
The African Center for Statistics was established by the UN Economic Commission for Africa in 2006, with an aim of building the statistics capacity of member states as well as sub-regional and regional organizations on the Continent. There is not very much on the site yet, but it is possible to download the full text of a number of publications in PDF format, including part one of the African Statistical Yearbook 2006. Visitors can download the whole yearbook or parts of it according to the country list. The Yearbook is translated into French and English.

African Economic Research Consortium
The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), which was established in 1988, is a public not-for-profit organization devoted to advanced policy research and training in economics. Its principal objective is to strengthen local capacity for conducting independent, rigorous inquiry into problems pertinent to the management of economies in sub-Saharan Africa. Universities throughout the Continent collaborate in the AERC network to train economists at the master's and doctoral levels. The full text of all of AERC's publications is available free of charge in PDF format on the website. These include working papers, policy briefs, seminar reports, and special papers. Although many AERC publications are relevant, those included in the category "Reproductive Health Working Papers" may be most pertinent.

African Population Health Research Center
The African Population Health Research Center (APHRC), located in Nairobi, is an international not-for profit, nongovernmental organization with a mission of promoting the well being of Africans through policy-relevant research on population and health. APHRC has an active research agenda and a publication program to disseminate research results. It is possible to view abstracts and download text in PDF format of all documents published at APHRC-working papers, research reports, fact sheets, newsletters, annual reports, and subject specific resources. APHRC staff and associates also publish in internationally peer-reviewed journals. APHRC lists journal articles published with a full citation and sometimes an abstract, and then links the visitor to the journal's publisher to access full text, usually at a charge. (Many of these journals are available at no cost to African scholars working at universities or research organizations on the Continent, through WHO's HINARI program to provide free access in the developing world to journal literature. For more information about HINARI, including how your organization can register for access, go to http://www.who.int/hinari/en/.

Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Centre
The Africa Regional Sexuality Resource Centre, which is located in Nigeria, is part of a Ford Foundation global initiative to promote more informed policy doialogue on human sexuality and to contribute to positive changes in the emerging field of sexuality in Africa. In Africa, this initiative focuses on the four most populous countries: Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa. The ARSRC website mounts all of its research and publications, including its magazine, Sexuality in Africa. There is also an online resource center.

AfroAIDSinfo
AfroAIDSinfo is an HIV/AIDS portal for Southern Africa maintained by the South African Medical Research Council (MRC). Association of African Universities
The Association of African Universities (AAU) is a pan-African organization with member universities in almost every country on the continent. There are two AAU activities that may be of interest to you. The first is the AAU initiative on "African Universities Responding to HIV/AIDS." You can find a number of full-text reports on HIV/AIDS and higher education in Africa and the HIV/AIDS policies of 13 universities. The second activity is an initiative to index and abstract theses and dissertations completed in African universities-the Database of African Theses and Dissertations (DATAD). Many of the theses and dissertations indexed in DATAD will be of direct relevance to population, reproductive health, and development. In addition, because the University of Ghana participates in DATAD, theses and dissertations completed at the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS) will be found there. Participating universities have access to DATAD free of charge; there is an annual subscription of $100 for African institutions. For further information, contact Pascal Hoba.

INDEPTH Network
INDEPTH is an international network consisting of 31 demographic surveillance system (DSS) field sites in 17 countries; 27 of the sites are in Africa. INDEPTH's goal is to help developing counties set health priorities and policies based on longitudinal evidence. The data collection and research carried out by INDEPTH and its network members are meant to guide the cost-effective use of tools, interventions, and systems to ensure and monitor progress towards national goals. Unfortunately, the INDEPTH website does not mount very much of its research. Under products you will find a list and abstracts for INDEPTH's monograph series, but none is available online free-of-charge. It is possible to download in PDF format INDEPTH Technical Notes and a series of working papers is planned. In terms of the INDEPTH member sites, INDEPTH has compiled a useful bibliography of research published by those sites, with some links to the full citation, but not consistently.

The Union for African Population Studies (UAPS) is a scientific, pan-African non-profit organization, which was established in 1984. UAPS publishes African Population Studies, a peer-reviewed bi-lingual (English and French) journal that is published twice a year. Although the UAPS website only makes available tables of contents on its site, it is possible to view and download abstracts and full text in html and PDF formats through Bioline International. Bioline is a not-for-profit electronic publishing service committed to providing open access to quality research journals published in developing countries.
